A Taste of Tunisia in Doha, Qatar - SIDI BOU SAID RESTAURANT

Having stayed in the Middle East for a decade, my forever food buddy has developed a special penchant for Arabic cuisine.  And since being together for 10 months now here in Doha, my taste has been immensely influenced as well.  Yes, I admit, I am fond now and highly interested in the varied delighting flavors of the Arab countries.  For this post, let me entice you with A TASTE OF TUNISIA.

Technically, Tunisia is not a part of the Middle East.  It belongs to a territory, collectively called the "North Africa", including other Arab countries of Morocco, Algeria and Libya.
We have frequent the area in which this gem is located. Being closely opposite to Amjad Thai Snack Restaurant in Al Nasr, and sandwiched between two other restaurants as well; it was only on our fourth visit to the Thai restaurant that we set eyes on and conquered this Tunisian restaurant: SIDI BOU SAID.

And guess what, the name of the restaurant is actually a name of a town in Tunisia.  See information below from the wikipedia.com.

Fast Fact on Sidi Bou Said:
Sidi Bou Said a town in northern Tunisia located about 20 km from the capital, Tunis. Named for a religious figure who lived there, Abu Said al-Baji, it was previously called Jabal el-Menar. Wikipedia

After our orders were taken, the wait staff served a complimentary food:
the KHOBZ Tabouna, a traditional oven-baked bread of Tunisia.
He served one more piece after we ate up the first two pieces of bread on the basket.
Together with the bread, was a bowl of olives and sauces: the red one was spicy and the white one was I think a yogurt or a cream cheese or simply, a cream.  I was unable to confirm with the wait staff.
Complimentary: KHOBZ TABOUNA

Price: FREE

Taste Comment and Other Comments:
Love this Tunisian bread, the taste is delectable!
Being served hot, there was freshness-from-the-oven in taste and smell.

APPETIZER - TUNISIAN SALAD

Price: 10 QAR

Taste Comment and Other Comments:
Though I am not into tuna, the generous chunks of vegetables have overpowered the fish's taste and I was satiated.  The fresh mix offers health and wellness in every spoonful-swallow of the salad.

The menu of the restaurant is surprisingly atypical. They offer different sets of dishes every day in their MAIN COURSE, see their menu HERE.

Here's what we ordered from their Thursday set:
DJERBIAN RICE

Price: 40 QAR

Taste Comment and Other Comments:
Despite the quantity appeared insufficient for sharing, it repleted two famished tummies!
Rich is the word to define this dish.  The rich in taste was an automatic upshot of the richness of its amazingly cooked and well-blended ingredients. And one thing I love more about this rice dish - it is spicy!

One of the best-tasting teas I have ever had.
