Little Thailand in Doha, Qatar - AMJAD THAI SNACK RESTAURANT

After two years of officially blogging about food, I am now on my 197th post on a Christmas Day! And this blog post is indeed quite special since I am featuring this newly discovered favorite in my new location.

I have been very upfront and consistent with my declaration for the love of anything Thailand, and that, of course, includes its cuisine!  After spotting this restaurant a few months ago, we have dined in here for the 8th time, the latest, and have identified new favorites and established a go-to meal combo!

For those who have been residing in Qatar for more than a year and you are a self-declared foodie or someone who loves Thai cuisine or any of the Southeast Asian cuisines, it is highly possible that you have dined here - AMJAD THAI SNACK RESTAURANT in Al Nasr.

For the months of November and December 2017, we have had our dinners at this restaurant for 6 times, such loyal customers, right?.  And from those dinner dates, we conquered the restaurant by feet,  i.e., we walk from our flat to the restaurant, which is about 1.4 miles in distance. That's how avid we are and most of the time, we reward our efforts with our favorite Sa La Pao + Sukiyaki Fried Noodles + Thai Milk Iced Tea combo!
Upon entry to the restaurant compound, I can, always, feel bits of Bangkok vibes,  because of the decoration at the entrance, the rustic, homey appeal of the restaurant ( which reminded me of Wendy Guest House in Bangkok) and the staff that take your orders and serve your food are all Thai!  The ambiance and the workforce of the restaurant ultimately emit the Thailand vibes and "my-love-for-Thailand-spirit" is always ignited during every visit.  In my judgment (basing the aforementioned observations at the restaurant) I assert that Amjad Thai Snack Restaurant is an authentic Thai restaurant. Indeed a LITTLE THAILAND in Doha.

Since we utterly love Thai foods and because of these newly declared favorites, we decided to celebrate my birthday last month in this restaurant.  You can see how our dining experience went from my YouTube video, see it HERE.
The restaurant accommodates about 35++ tables for both indoor and outdoor seating.  That table #5 above is our favorite spot.  Out of the 8 visits, we have luckily (since at times the table is already occupied when we arrive) eaten our dinners for four times on this favored nook.
The picture-filled menu booklet of Amjad Thai Snack Restaurant with around a hundred and eighty dishes to choose and devour from!  Such an extensive offering.

The stainless steel eating utensils  (contained in that silver box), a box of table napkins, and variety of condiments and spices are generously laid on the table for easy access and self-service.

Now, let's talk about F O O D !
Enjoy my gastronomic visual display and honest reviews of my favorites and of the other dishes that we have tasted in our several visits.

The photos are  arranged in an order according to our visits to the restaurant, i.e., most recent down to the very first dining experience.
THAI ICED TEA with MILK
Since beverages are the fastest and easiest to prepare, these are always served first. Take a look at my all-time favorite Thai drink.  Photogenically delicious indeed. This restaurant's version of this sweet refreshment is the BEST as yet!
STEAM FISH WITH LEMON SAUCE
I am both in love with the culinary presentation and taste of the fish!
THAI FRIED RICE - SEAFOOD
Orange colored, flavored, spicy fried rice with some pieces of chewy, yet fresh-tasting peeled shrimps and sliced squids!
SEAFOOD GREEN CURRY
Mixed seafoods soup and mixed vegetables in one.
What makes this green is the main ingredient of a green curry paste which is the Green Chili! Hence, this soup is spicy!
On May 2011, AMJAD THAI SNACK RESTAURANT was listed as one of the best budget restaurants in Doha through the Time Out Awards.
STEAM FISH WITH LEMON SAUCE

Price: 80 QAR

Taste Comment and Other Comments:
The freshness of the fish was very apparent because of its taste.  The way it was cooked, steamed, and the manner of serving (maintained hotness), did preserve the freshness of the fish's taste and we loved every swallow of it.  The sauce which was a mix of lemon and Thai fish sauce was indeed an interesting mix. The minced spring-colored vegetables added zest. This dish is highly RECOMMENDED!

THAI FRIED RICE - SEAFOOD

Price: 25 QAR

Taste Comment and Other Comments:
Not as delicious as the Thai Fried Rice - Vegetable.  I was expecting for that slightly sour taste but it was totally just oily and spicy.  However,  I loved how the shrimps were cooked, just the right softness and that fresh taste was somehow retained.

SEAFOOD GREEN CURRY

Price: 30 QAR

Taste Comment and Other Comments:
I loved the curry version of Thai cuisine.  What was entirely noticeable by my taste buds was the taste of coconut cream!  Plus the taste of the Thai basil leaves (plus definitely that galangal root in the paste)  made this soup an authentic Thai dish.  I loved the abundance of ingredients: chunks of vegetables from broccoli, to cauliflower and slices of eggplant and that motley of catch from the seas: shrimp, fish and squid!  This dish is A MUST-TRY Too!

Yes, dining in table #5 number again!
THAI ICED TEA with MILK
THAI FRIED RICE - VEGETABLE
This is an excellent and healthier alternative for plain rice + a meat dish since it already contains a surplus of delectably flavored rice and profuse vegetables and protein, represented by scrambled egg strips.
DEEP FRIED CHICKEN WINGS + THAI CHILI SAUCE
THAI FRIED RICE - VEGETABLE

Price: 20 QAR

Taste Comment and Other Comments:
Surprised that it had a slightly sour taste which imparted a delicious twist plus a generous serving of veggies, and I truly loved it!
A must-try!

Above mediocrity, taste-wise.  But dipping it in Thai chili sauce can improve just a bit.

Casual dining is what this restaurant offers. But it's dimly lighted (somewhat suitable for dining), well-ventilated, subtly cooled partitioned rooms and generally, clean dining area are the other features that made this restaurant click for the longest time.  And of course, affordable pricing is another basis for frequenters.

My first bite and gulp were like a taste of heaven on earth.
I was overwhelmed with awe by the sumptuous, mouthwatering taste of this seemingly uncomplicated noodle recipe.

VEGETABLE EGG ROLLS

THAI MILK ICED TEA is consistently our choice of drinks whenever we dine in here at Amjad Thai Snack Restaurant.  And we will always be repeating this for the nth time.

Taste Comment and Other Comments:
This is not one of my favorites in this restaurant but since it is the most famous dish, being Thailand's national dish, one must have a sip of the soup.  Maybe because it is less creamy.  I love creamier versions, which is the reason why that Tom Yum in an Al Muntazah restaurant have captured my attention and garnered higher rating.

SUKIYAKI FRIED NOODLES - SEAFOOD
Always a part of our meal at the restaurant.
Beginning from the photo above until the end of this post, these photos were taken using cellular phones during our first and second visit at Amjad Thai Restaurant during the first and second quarter of 2017.
These photos are evidences of our humongous appetite and unwavering fondness for Sa La Pao + Sukiyaki Fried Noodles + Thai Milk Iced Tea since our discovery of these favorites.

The two rice dishes with sunny-side-up-egg topping had palatable tastes. Unfortunately, I forgot the names of these dishes.  What I remember though was that I was expecting for a drier dish, but both of these had a "cupful" of slight salty (according to my tolerance level) sauces underneath which was a turn-off for me.
The other two dishes that we have tasted in the restaurant but no photos were taken are as follows:

PAPAYA SALAD
Price: 20 QAR

Taste Comment and Other Comments:
I was expecting for a more mature papaya but it was not chew-friendly.  The addition of Thai fish sauce (which I think is one of the main ingredients that makes it a Thai dish) was quite unacceptable to me.
